The Suspension Report for gameweek 2 provides up to date information on players suspended for the current gameweek, and players who are close to receiving a suspension. We highly recommend fantasy managers cast their eye down the suspension lists before confirming transfers.
Whilst a number of players may have caught your eye over the opening gameweek, plenty were also caught in the eyes of the referee’s. No less than 32 yellow cards and 2 reds were brandished over the course of the opening gameweek, with one manager also being sent to the stands. At least us fantasy managers are safe from such treatment (in truth only because we’re hiding behind our computer screens!).
Dean Whitehead of Stoke was dismissed in the 93rd minute of their opening fixture away at Reading after picking up his second yellow card of the game. Dean will now miss the first home game of the season, a difficult tie against Arsenal.
Following the red card Daniel Agger received at West Brom, the defender will miss Liverpool’s opening home game against defending champions Manchester City. Liverpool have decided not to appeal, and have therefore accepted the 1 match ban.
Finally, we can’t finish without a quick word on a favourite of ours in the FFC suspension department, Mr Barton, who at present is still at QPR. With Joey serving such a lengthy 12 match ban, it was rumoured that a loan offer was on the cards for him to move to Marseille in France. Under normal circumstances Joey would be free to play in France, and would serve the remainder of his suspension upon his return to the UK. However, it is believed that the English FA have asked the French Football Federation to uphold the ban! If this happens Joey may as well go on holiday and come back in 6 weeks to start training. It’s an unusual story but we will endeavour to keep you updated as the season moves on.
The following players will therefore be serving a suspension for the following gameweeks.
The Suspension Watchlist
The yellow card count was reset for all players at the start of the season, therefore no player is on more than 1 yellow card at the moment, though there are plenty of them. At this stage of the season, a player needs to accumulate 5 yellow cards before they receive a ban.
The Value of ‘The Suspension Report’
Up to date suspension information is a hugely valuable tool for fantasy managers, and we strongly encourage everyone to review this section on a weekly basis. It may very well save you from making a horrendous transfer or team selection mistake!
